Actually Ken, $1699 is MSRP I would not be surprised to find the street price a little lower.

I am looking to buy its amplified cousin the Onkyo 905.

This looks like one bad motherf#$#er as Sam Jackson might say.

Which receiver is mine, it is the one that says Bad Motherf$#@er on it.

To rich for my blood but it would be nice if Yamaha would hurry up and get something in the real world price ranges out with most of the features in a 7.1 or 7.2 model.

I will intergrate the info into the main post tomorrow.

Just wondering, is there any info on Harmon Kardon 1.3 receivers or maybe Marantz or any others companies or pre-pros? I would like to keep this page fairly complete and accurate.

Here is an excerpt from an the most recent Outlaw newsletter.

Our first item is one that we mentioned in our last Newsletter. Our inventory of new stock of the Model 1070 Receiver has now sold out, and there will be no further production. Thus, the Model 1070 joins our list of "alumni" products. As also noted, while work is underway for a successor to the Model 1070, we do not expect it to ship until some time next year.

Based upon this it we could assume that the HDMI 1.3's wont be available until Spring 2008. Being a die hard Outlaw fan I was really hoping for a HDMI 1.3 pre/pro to replace my 970 with ,sometime this summer. Oh well....... Maybe Steve from Outlaw can post some from the horses mouth insider info!

That is sad, but for the value based company that Outlaw is, it isn't surprising. I mean Outlaw does a wonderful job of releasing products that sell cheap and preform as well as units that cost much more and I guess it is inevitable that it would be hard to keep up to speed when the tech is changing so rapidly.

Oh and here is an odd thing about this thread....

My Norton Internet Security was reporting this page as a possible scam and offered me the chance to have a scam analysis done on it so I did.

The result... According to Norton it is 100% save to view this page but be careful entering any information because this page uses several elements of scams.

Ah elements of Scams

Shane,
I was editing the stuff in as you were posting. It is all up there now. I guess we should be seeing the 2800 soon too.

I noticed the sites are just coming up, there are still some things not there yet like reap panel views and enlarged pics but imagine Yamaha will get them up soon.

Never mind the product views are there, but for some reason when I click enlarge on the main pages I get a This Page Cannot be found thing.

Actually playing with their site some more, there are no product views coming up for new or older units. It seems odd they must be working on something there.

OK after doing a little digging around the net I am begining to think the Yamaha 4800 might be the sweet spot in their lineup.

After looking things over the 3800 has the ability to use front presence channels but at the expense of the rear surrounds so if you want 5.1 it might be cool but if you want 7.1 you can't use the front presence channels which means you can't use their Cinema 3d DSP which might be a cool thing. Also the 3800 does not have an HD Radio tuner.

I am thinking the 4800 will likely add two front presence channels so you can do 7.1 and still have the 2 presence speakers active and my guess is it will also have an HD radio tuner and possibly the better video chip of the RX-Z 11 unit. Very possibly might support stereo subs like the RX-Z 11 but not sure and also not sure I lke the stereo sub idea, most of what I picked up from listening to Tom V, Ron S and other serious bass heads seem to indicate you are better off keeping multiple woofers together.

I would add two extra front effects channels if it did not interfere with the 7.1 surround and I could get something a little smaller in a rocket speaker.

Will see what happens I expect the listings to be up soon.

Yamaha web sites alternate views seem to be working now.

As much happiness I have had with Yamaha products over the years, I was reading up in the manual for the 3800 I think I may be making a move to Denon or Onkyo this time out unless the 4800 as some very different things.

One of the big problems as I see it is most of the Denon and Onkyo autoEQ modes allow you to combine settings for between 6-8 seat locations while I think the Yamaha looks like one location from what I could gather. I think this could really hurt when we are talking about an 7-8 seat theater room.

The Yamaha YPAO is a weakpoint. It won't eq anything below 60hz unless they changed something.

I did not realize the others went below 60HZ? Will these units really do an EQ attempt on the sub? I was thinking of getting one of those velodyne units that Mike uses but if a receiver can do some measure of this I might hold off and check and see how well it works. Seems to me the most work usually needs to be done in the 50-60hz range anyway. At least that is where I always seem to find the peak that needs to get tamed.

BTW Shane, how is life with the PB Ultra II that you got from Artie? You happy with it?

Others will eq down to atleast 20hz. I don't know if a stand alone audyssey is as good as an SMS-1.

Life with the PB 12 Ultra 2 has been better than I can even type about. I've already had 2 casualties I really didn't realize how much bass I was missing when I had my M&K.

Casualty wise, I was messing with Master and Commander when a cannon blast knocked my cordless phone off the shelf. One of my side speakers attached to the wall with a toggle bolt also fell down. It's a lot bigger than I expected but we're making due

It's way overkill for what I would be happy with which is good because I have no desire to upgrade at all. Upgraditis is cured in that realm.

I must admit, I am getting nervous about the two Ultra 13s being more then my room can handle and have been going back and forth on the thought of canceling one of them before they ship this week. I am thinking two of these stacked would be quite a bit more then the Ultra II with the 2 12" drivers just based on the cubic volume of the enclosures not counting what SVS has done with the new 13" ultra driver.

I ordered them when I thought the room was going to be 20 x 28 x 9 but now I am looking at 15'6" by 19'6" by 8 so I lost much volume there and I suppose this is going to be a way overkill setup but I am thinking of going with a 10hz tuning rather then going for SPLs.

I have a feeling I will be able to play the note that causes everyone to puke and crap at the same time.

And another reason for maybe canceling one would be the staircase they need to go up at over 155lbs each.

It won't be too much unless your room is really small (I don't think that you literally can't have too much, I just think it would have to be pretty extreme) it just might be a waste of money.
