No, it's that I could stream them through my audio system, literally just like I stream my CDs. No TV or display device required.

Most concert DVDs have a stereo audio track that I would like to be able to rip and stream the same way I do my CDs. To legally do that now I would have to buy the CDs of concerts I already own on DVD. Also, while I can only stream 2 channel audio right now, with the right equipment multi-channel audio can be streamed.

I'm one of those that automatically thinks of movies or TV shows when I think of DVDs, so at first I don't see the big deal. However, concert DVDs would be nice to be able to stream.

I haven't gotten around to it, but I do have a few (5?) concert DVDs that I plan on recording onto a hard drive so that I could put them onto CD or my Squeezebox collection. No ripping required.

I don't buy many DVDs or Blu-Rays. However, most of Blu-Rays I do have are concert videos and a pretty fair portion of my DVDs, as well. If you count TV series as single items I am pretty sure I have more concert videos than I have TV shows or movies.

The software may be legal, but only for limited purposes. So far the consensus seems to be that ripping DVDs or BRDs for back-up or use on other devices is still illegal.

A technicality, I know, but an important one, IMO.

Oh it's an absolutely critical distinction. But I suspect an argument could be made that pulling just the audio tracks off a DVD for personal, noncommercial use would be within the scope of the new DMCA exemptions. But then again, I really wouldn't want to be the test case...

You could argue that you were testing your ability to do so.

If you count TV series as single items, I'm positive I have more complete television series on DVD than I have concert videos - even if you only count series that lasted 5 or more years. I only have 3 concert DVDs.

Or perhaps "investigating."

Yup, even better. Or doing research.
