Aw man that’s a bummer. Did not enjoy his more recent work but the oldies were super original. The local sports radio station (1310 The Ticket) has a host (Mike Rhyner) and he doubles as lead singer for a cover band called Petty Theft. Bet Rhynes will be devastated.

Let's tie this thread in with the one in the Music Forum. Then let's pull for Tom and his family.

Tom Petty has passed on to the next realm where he may well be greeted by George Harrison and Roy Orbison. I hope so. Perhaps they're trading tunes like "Blue Bayou". Bet they sound great.

    Merged and moved

Bummer news on this. I liked his music and I'm one of apparently the few people who really love the move The Postman. His cameo in that is awesome.

I met TP back in 1989. He was touring through the Bay Area with the Wilburys and my then-wife got backstage passes. Nancy was the buyer for Tower Records. Apparently she had gotten to know Petty in the 70's as she was instrumental in getting his first album and first single played on the radio in SF, which is where his commercial career launched with the single "Breakdown." I shook his hand but they hugged and kissed and acted like dear friends and sat and talked for a good 20 minutes while I went in search of cocktails.

Plus I got to see the Travelling Wilburys at the Greek Theater in Berkeley from the wings on stage. Shook Jeff Lynne's hand too - never got close to the other stars.

    RIP
